Thank You State Department
I must say, I simply adore the fact the American government’s rigorous hiring practices and stringent, insensible management, have left its various organizations filled with paper pushers; paper pushers with a bad case of The Eight Hour Mentality.
What is The Eight Hour Mentality? Well, it’s an explanation for the unbounded level of incompetence seen in many large organizations, particularly those operating under the oversight of the US government. Eight Hour Mentality workers believe that becoming a more efficient, smarter worker is pointless because it doesn’t alleviate the “burden” brought on by their eight hour shift. Why should they bother doing more than they’re used to doing if it won’t make their job any easier or their shift go by any faster. If they’ve gotten only issuing visas for say, the past 8 years, why should they go “out of their way” to actually check up on the visa holders whereabouts? Following up on my whereabouts won’t make that stack of papers any shorter and, in fact, it will most likely introduce more paperwork for them to push.
Yes, if it wasn’t for you, revered government worker, overstaying my visa would be just an unjustifiable risk instead of an instrument of immersion. My immersion into American society.
